Who We Are

Rooted in Bundibugyo, Growing for the World

Nyahuka Agri Farmers Cooperative Society brings together smallholder farming families in the Nyahuka area of Bundibugyo District, at the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains.

By pooling produce, sharing training, and marketing collectively, members earn fairer prices and reach export buyers they couldn't access alone.

Our commitment is simple: quality produce, better household incomes, and a stronger community.

What We Do

Three Pillars, One Mission

From the farm to the export market, everything we do serves our members and the quality of their produce.

Conventional Cocoa Beans

Well-fermented, sun-dried cocoa beans produced to consistent grade and moisture standards for reliable bulk supply.

Organic & Fairtrade Cocoa & Vanilla

Certified organic and Fairtrade produce — including cured vanilla — grown under sustainable, shade-friendly practices.

Farmer Training & Support

Practical field training in good agronomic practice, post-harvest handling, and quality control that lifts every member's yield and price.

Our Products

Fine-Flavour Produce from the Rwenzori Foothills

Grown in rich volcanic soils and processed to export standard by our members.

Cocoa Beans

Our members grow cocoa in the deep soils of the Rwenzori foothills, where cool nights and steady rainfall slow the pods and concentrate flavour. Beans are fermented in timber boxes and sun-dried on raised beds, then hand-sorted to a consistent grade. The result is a clean, fruit-forward bean that performs consistently batch after batch.

Vanilla

Vanilla vines are hand-pollinated flower by flower and left to mature on the vine before harvest. Pods are then cured slowly — sunned by day, sweated by night — until they reach a supple, oily finish. That balance of moisture and vanillin suits premium buyers extracting or using whole pods.

Our Story

Stronger Together Than Apart

For generations, smallholder farmers in Bundibugyo sold their cocoa and vanilla individually to middlemen, with little say over price and little reward for quality.

Nyahuka Agri Farmers Cooperative Society was formed to change that — pooling members' produce, investing in quality and training, and negotiating directly with export buyers so value returns to the farmers who create it.

When farmers market together, they earn together.

Today that means fairer prices, better yields, and household incomes that pay school fees, improve homes, and strengthen the whole community.

Member Voices

In Their Own Words

The cooperative's real measure of success is the lives of the farmers who make it.

Before, I sold my cocoa to whoever passed by my farm and took the price I was given. Now we sell together and I know what my beans are worth — last season it paid my children's school fees.

Village pending

The training changed how I work. I learned how to prune, when to harvest, and how to ferment and dry properly. My yield is better and the buyers tell me my beans are cleaner.

Village pending

On my own I had no voice with the buyers. Belonging to the cooperative means we market together and I am not negotiating alone. There is security in that, and pride too.

Sustainability & Community

Growing More Than Cocoa

Our farming lifts communities, protects the land, and secures the future for the next generation of growers.

Young shade trees growing between rows of crops on a member farm

Sustainable, Shade-Grown Farming

Members grow cocoa under shade trees using agroforestry practices that protect soil, support biodiversity, and reduce reliance on chemicals.

Food Security Alongside Cash Crops

Farmers are encouraged to reserve land for food crops beside their cocoa and vanilla, so households stay food-secure while earning from export produce.

Women & Youth Inclusion

The cooperative actively includes women and young farmers in membership, training, and leadership — broadening opportunity across the community.

Community Investment

Fairer incomes and cooperative premiums flow back into what matters — school fees, better homes, and stronger local livelihoods.
